Storm-Ready, Tide-Friendly Dock Systems for Coastal Living
A fixed dock works well in stable water. On the tidal creeks, rivers, and shorelines throughout Wilmington and the surrounding coast, water levels shift constantly — with the tide, with storm surge, and seasonally. A floating dock stays accessible in all of it. It rises and falls with the water, puts no rigid stress on its anchoring system, and in most cases can be disconnected and pulled ahead of a major storm. For a lot of waterfront properties in this area, it’s simply the right call.
Logan Marine designs and installs custom floating boat docks for residential properties, commercial marinas, and waterfront businesses throughout the Wilmington, NC region. Every system is engineered for the specific conditions at your site — water depth, current, wind exposure, tidal range, and storm surge risk.

Single-family floating dock installations for homes on tidal creeks, rivers, canals, and sound-front properties. We size and configure the system for your shoreline and your usage — whether that’s a simple kayak launch, a boat slip, or a full floating platform with lift integration.
Custom floating boat dock systems anchored with driven pilings or spud poles depending on site conditions. We build for the vessels that will actually use the dock — sizing slip width, freeboard height, and cleat placement based on your boat before we start the design. See our driven piling services for detail on the foundation work behind every dock we build.
Low-profile floating platforms and drive-on PWC docks designed for jet skis and personal watercraft. Integrated with our custom lift solutions when storage out of the water is the priority.
Modular floating dock systems for commercial marinas, waterfront HOAs, boat launch facilities, and municipal access points. We work with developers and property managers on multi-slip configurations, gangway systems, and floating pier layouts. See our marina construction services for the full scope.
Aluminum gangways and floating walkway connections between fixed structures and floating dock systems. Hinged to accommodate tidal variation and rated for the foot traffic and load requirements of your application.
Not sure whether a floating dock or fixed pier is right for your property? Schedule a free on-site consultation and we’ll assess your shoreline and walk you through the options.
Logan Marine builds floating dock systems using high-strength aluminum frames, composite decking, stainless steel hardware, and premium polyethylene flotation systems. No nails — 316-grade stainless steel fasteners throughout. Every system is rated for saltwater splash zones and coastal storm conditions.
Anchoring is site-specific. For most installations on rivers and tidal creeks, we drive pilings using our marine pile driving barge — the same equipment and process we use for all Logan Marine foundation work. For calmer, protected water, spud pole or anchor systems are assessed based on depth and bottom conditions. We’ll tell you which approach is right for your site, not which is easiest to install.
We match dock design to conditions at your specific location: water depth, wind exposure, current strength, and storm surge risk all factor into the design before a single component is ordered.
Logan Marine installs floating dock systems throughout Wilmington, NC and the surrounding coast. We regularly work on tidal creeks near Masonboro Sound, channels along the Intracoastal Waterway, Brunswick River and Cape Fear River frontage in Leland, and shorefront properties in Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, Topsail Beach, and Southport. If you’re on the water in Brunswick, New Hanover, or Pender County, give us a call.
Most floating dock projects require a permit from the NC Division of Coastal Management (CAMA) and in some cases the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Requirements depend on the waterbody, the size of the structure, and your proximity to coastal wetlands. Logan Marine manages the permitting process as part of the project.
When properly anchored and designed for the site conditions, yes. In some cases, floating dock systems can be disconnected and removed ahead of major weather events — an option fixed docks don’t have. We’ll recommend the right anchoring approach for your exposure level.
In most cases on coastal NC waterways, yes. Spud poles or anchoring systems can work in calm, protected water with stable bottoms, but pilings provide the most reliable hold in tidal and storm-exposed conditions. We inspect your site before making a recommendation.
Smaller residential systems can be installed in a few days once permits are secured. Larger or more complex builds depend on site access, layout, and weather. We’ll give you a realistic timeline at the consultation.
